2021 Oscars Nominations: Complete List Of Nominees

Many of us thought that the tradition of celebrating the best of what the cinema had to offer was not going to happen in 2020. However, with the tumultuous year behind us, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has rolled down their red carpets and the nominations have been made.

Mank, The Father, Promising Young Woman, Nomadland, Trial of Chicago 7, Judas and the Black Messiah, My current favourite Sound of Metal and my most anticipated film of last year, Minari are competing for the place of best picture.

With cinemas closed all around, movies of streaming services have dominated this award season. Netflix’s Mank scooped nominations in 10 categories. This included the Best Director award for David Flincher, Gary Oldman for Best Male Actor, Amanda Seyfried for best-supporting actress. It’s shocking how Netflix struggled to get a film in during the previous Oscars and now production of theirs has the chance for winning most awards.

One of the surprising entries for me was The White Tiger, it probably took the spot of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Other films competing for the best-adapted screenplay are Nomadland, Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm, The Father, and One Night in Miami. Mad Mikkelsen has snubbed however the film he worked in, Another Round, is garnering some attention in the Best International Feature Film category.

TENET with a nod for Production Design got an obligatory nomination. Perhaps things would have been different if it had a wider cinema release. For a first, The Academy had voted two women, Chloe Zhao for Nomadland and Emerald Fennel for Promising Young Woman, for the Best Director.

Oscars had shifted by 2 months(now they are on 26 April, 2021)this year and they accepted entries till a later date too. This turned what was seeming to be one of the underwhelming years for movies into a year with interesting and diverse nominations.
